The current season was a triumphant return to the PKO BP Ekstraklasa for GKS Katowice after a 19-year absence. Under the leadership of coach Rafał Górak, the team finished the competition in eighth place, scoring 49 points with a goal balance of 52:50. As a newcomer, GKS not only secured its place, but also earned the title of the best mining team in the league, ahead of Piast Gliwice and Górnik Zabrze.
